Samoa Tuna Processors, Inc announced that they processed and shipped their first shipment of fresh tuna this week. The fish, including both yellowfin and bigeye tuna was delivered by Yuh Yow Fishing Co. that also delivers significant quantities of frozen albacore to Starkist Samoa for canning. The fresh fish was packed at the STP facility and shipped by Pacific Air Cargo to Los Angeles, California.
Samoa Tuna Processors has plans to renovate the tuna canning facility previously owned by Chicken of the Sea International in Atu'u Village, American Samoa. Included in those plans is construction of a 5,000 mt cold storage facility, renovation of the tuna cannery and construction of a new state of the art fresh and frozen fish processing plant.
The company says it continues to be interested in purchasing high quality fresh fish from the local fishing fleet and securing premium markets for their catches.
